I’m back! Sorry that single and saving has been single and not blogging, but I was in Delaware visiting family (and my grandmother, aka Mom-Mom, does not have the internet). It’s not the most exciting place in the world, but there is something great about the First State: tax-free shopping!
Since Delaware doesn’t have sales tax, I always make a point of going shopping while I’m there. Waiting to buy something that I’ve been eyeing in Atlanta until I visit family in Delaware is an instant 6% to 8% savings. To capitalize on their lack of sales tax, Delaware has some great malls and outlets (Christiana Mall in Newark is one of my favorites). If you happen to go to Alaska, Montana, New Hampshire or Oregon, you can also enjoy shopping without sales tax in those states.
Other states also offer tax-free shopping weekends that usually coincide with the beginning of the school year. We’ve had sales tax holidays in Georgia for the past eight years, but it probably won’t be happening this year due to the budget crisis.
