Philanthropy Friday: Belk Charity Sale

April 30, 2010 in Giving,Thrifty Tips

During my last year of college I worked at a Parisian department store.  Belk bought out Parisian a few years ago, but I’m happy to see that they’re still keeping one of my favorite things about Parisian: the Charity Sale.  This year’s Spring Charity Sale is on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 6:00 am to 10:00 am (I also liked that they had coffee and pastries for shoppers since it was an early sale, but that may have changed).  $5 tickets get shoppers access to sales of 20% to 70% off and the proceeds from ticket sales for each store go to local charities.

Ticket-holders also get $5 off their first purchase (so you’ll get your money back for the cost of the ticket) and the first 100 customers in line get a Belk gift card worth between $5 and $100.  It’s genuinely one of the best sales of the year because there aren’t a lot of the normal exclusions on the brands that aren’t subject to discounts during the Charity Sale.  Belk cardholders also get double rewards points on all of their purchases.  Tickets can be purchased in advance from participating nonprofits or at Belk stores on the morning of the sale.
