Philanthropy Friday: Donating Food to Charity

July 16, 2010 in Giving

Becoming a couponer means not just finding deals for yourself, but also finding deals that can benefit other people.  One easy way to give back to the community is to donate free or practically free items to your local food bank.  I keep a donation bag in my pantry for extra non-perishable food and other items that are on the food pantry’s wish list.  I recently made a donation (pictured above) to North Fulton Community Charities that included eighteen different items that I collected in just a month.

Be on the lookout for some of these food pantry staples (from NFCC’s website):

Food: all types of non-perishable food including: tuna fish, canned meat, cereals, grits, dry beans, rice, macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, jelly, single serving foods, canned soup, fruit, vegetables, pasta, spaghetti sauce, and sugar.  No glass containers.
Toiletries: shampoo, bath soap, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, disposable razors, and shaving cream.
Paper Products: toilet paper, paper towels, baby diapers, feminine products.
Cleaning supplies: powder laundry detergent, dish detergent and other household cleaning supplies.
