It’s been nearly ten years since I graduated from high school. It seems like high school wasn’t that long ago, but it’s time to decide if I should RSVP to my 10 year reunion.
MHS’s Class of 2001 has decided to have a reunion at a big nightclub in Midtown Atlanta (it’s within walking distance to my apartment, so I can’t complain about traveling). Tickets are $85 for an open bar, food and the potential for socially awkward interaction with people I haven’t spoken since I was 17. There are several studies that say that spending money on experiences makes can bring us happiness, but I’m not sure that I can get $85 worth of happiness out of a reunion.
Facebook has solved that “I wonder what _________ from my English class is up to?” curiosity for me. If anything, I may know too much about what my former classmates are up to…from seeing pictures from college parties they went to or enduring a barrage of their baby’s pictures, it’s pretty easy to know what old friends have done with their lives. My best friend in high school is still one of my closest friends, and I’m thinking that $85 will be better spent on the cruise we want to take this summer.
So what do you think? Will I live to regret missing out on my high school reunion? Did you go to yours?
