With Groupon, LivingSocial, Scoutmob and loads of other daily deal sites out there, I feel like we’re in daily deal overload. Now there’s yet another option in Facebook Deals: a new Facebook coupon feature that launched this week in five pilot cities, including Atlanta.
I pressed the “Like” button to check out the deals and to see what all of the fuss was about. The deals will show up in your newsfeed and you can also go to the Facebook Deals page to see them. Deals can be purchased with a credit card and there’s an option to buy a deal for one of your Facebook friends. I like that I don’t have to sign up for a daily email to see the deals, but the deals themselves seem little underwhelming so far.
The discounts are deeper on other daily deals sites for a similar listing of items (including restaurants and experiences like rock climbing). One of the “deals” is kind of perplexing: A Luxurious Birthday Party for 4 Kids at St. Regis Atlanta for $699? $699?! That’s a $100 discount for the regular $799 price, but a kid’s birthday party for $175 person doesn’t seem like a deal to me. I guess kids don’t have birthday parties at the McDonald’s PlayPlace anymore.
