I’m back from spending a few days in Las Vegas and I’m proud to say that my budget is still intact. Vegas is one of those places that can easily drain your bank account, but there are also plenty of free and low-cost ways to have fun in Sin City without breaking your budget. Here’s how I did it:
Get a Deal on a Hotel
There are lots of hotels in Las Vegas and that means lots of deals on hotel rooms. I’ve seen several good prices and packages on websites like SniqueAway and Travelzoo. I stayed at the Palazzo and saw on Better Bidding that rooms often go for about half-off on Priceline. The room had remote-controlled curtains and three televisions, so it’d be a bargain for the Priceline price of around $100 a night. The picture above is the view from my window.
Check Out Free Entertainment on The Strip
From the fountains at the Bellagio to the
slutty pirate show at Treasure Island, there is lots to see on the Strip. I spent one day walking around to free attractions like M&M’s World and also stumbled across two weddings in the hotel. It’s also a great city for people watching.
Look for Discount Tickets
I wanted to see a show in Las Vegas and found some good deals on Groupon and Travelzoo before my trip. There are also several Tix4Tonight locations on the Strip. Tix4Tonight sells discount tickets to several popular shows. I went there to buy tickets for Cirque du Soleil’s Le Reve and saved about $40 per ticket. I recommend going to one of the air-conditioned locations because there’s often a line.
Set a Budget in Advance for Splurges
I’m not a gambler, but I knew that I wanted to spend some money on one of Vegas’ great buffets. Brunch is one of my favorite things in the world and, in my pre-trip research, I found that champagne brunch buffets can cost almost $90 before gratuity. That made my $50 splurge on the champagne brunch at The Buffet at the Wynn seem a little more reasonable. The expense was totally worth it to me for unlimited champagne and mimosas and an insane amount of food. This was just my dessert:
