Small Business Saturday: Get a $25 Amex Credit

November 14, 2011 in Shopping

The thought of getting up early for Black Friday isn’t very appealing to me, but I love the idea of Small Business Saturday.  This second annual event encourages people to shop at local small businesses on Saturday, November 26th.  It’s been sad to see many local businesses close during the recession, so it’s great to show small shops and restaurants some love.

To give shoppers added incentive to shop on Small Business Saturday, American Express is offering a $25 statement credit to cardmembers who register their Amex cards through a link on the Small Business Saturday Facebook page and spend $25 or more at a small business on November 26th.  I registered my card for last year’s event and bought a $25 gift card to a friend’s favorite restaurant.  The statement credit appeared on my card in a couple of weeks and the gift card made a great gift for my friend.  She doesn’t need to know that I didn’t spend any money on it, right?  The Small Business Saturday Facebook page also has a helpful search function that helps you find small businesses located in your zip code.

There’s also a chance to win a $25 American Express Shop Small gift card by visiting the Vocalpoint Small Business Saturday website by tonight (the contest ends on November 14th at 11:59 pm).  What are your favorite small businesses to support?
