30 Before 30

BOLD 2014

I’m still trying to wrap up my 30 Before 30 list, so I decided to forgo New Year’s resolutions this year. On January 1st the idea of choosing one word to define 2014 seemed to be everywhere from The Today Show to blog posts, so I was inspired to pick one for myself. My word for this year is BOLD.

I don’t want to be afraid to try new things and take more chances. I want to be more fearless in how I approach my career, personal life and faith. Reminding myself to be bold will help me pursue opportunities that come along this year, even if they make me anxious.  Boldness will also give me the courage to say “no” to new obligations without feeling guilty about disappointing someone. I’m looking forward to seeing how being bold will shape 2014.

What word have you chosen to define this year?

Birthday freebie emails are starting to hit my inbox, so it’s officially August! Instead of spending the last month of my twenties engrossed in episodes of Big Brother and drinking Sinless Margaritas by the pool, I’m planning on blogging more with updates about tackling my 30 Before 30 list, some money saving tips and other randomness.

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this Mint infographic about the high costs of being a single lady. Did you know that a single woman’s expenses total over $1 million more than her married counterpart over the course of a lifetime? Excuse me while I go clip some coupons…

Breathing Room in Finances and Life

February 28, 2013

My church started off the year with a great sermon series called “Breathing Room.” The concept behind Breathing Room is that our lives are face-paced and hectic, and that we’ll burn out if we don’t slow down. You can watch all four parts of the series here, but I particularly love that part three talks […]

August 6, 2012

It’s crazy to think that I have just over a year before I turn 30.  A lot of my time and money over the late Spring and Summer went towards celebrating friends’ weddings and I’m happy to start focusing on accomplishing my goals over the next year.  Wedding-related events and travel killed my budget for […]

My 30 Before 30 List: April 2012 Update and Your Dating Advice Wanted!

May 3, 2012

April was a pretty slow month for accomplishing things on my 30 Before 30 list.  It was a busy month filled with bridesmaid duties and that got me thinking about #10 on my list: Go on a Date.  I don’t know why it’s seems to be difficult for me to find a decent date, but […]

My 30 Before 30 List: February & March 2012 Update

April 6, 2012

I’ve been so tired today.  I’m recovering from my red eye flight from Vancouver and maybe a little jet lag too.  I went to Vancouver for the Association of Fundraising Professionals International Conference, but it was also a good way to cross off #18 (Visit a Foreign Country) off my list.  Traveling can get expensive […]

My 30 Before 30 List: January 2012 Update

January 30, 2012

2012 is off to a bit of a rough start.  This month has proven to me that single people can definitely be busy because I’ve had a ton to do this month.  I’m disappointed that I didn’t meet my “blog twice a week” goal this month, but January has been overwhelming with work and with […]
